This award winning maple has a non-invasive root system so it is ideal for small city yards and curbside strips. It can be planted closer to structures than other maples; it also grows well in containers for a deck, entry, or patio.  In spring it has little purple flowers, then red leaves emerge, aging to deep burgundy (depending on the amount of sunshine it receives.)  In winter the deep reddish-black bark adds interest and texture.  Bloodgood is easy-care and one of the hardiest varieties of Japanese Maple, maturing at approximately 15 feet tall.  Acer palmatulm 'Bloodgood'  USDA Zones 5 -8

Though it has glossy green leaves in summer, this maple is named its spectacular fall foliage of reds, rusts and orange; this beautiful display will last several weeks.  Another bonus is its clusters of small red flowers in spring  because these provide a welcome early nectar source for pollinators.  In winter Red Sunset Maple continues to be attractive with reddish hues on its branches and twigs.   The tree does well in about any soil, in full sun to part shade.  Red Sunset grows quickly to about 25-30 feet tall with a tidy, rounded shape.  Developed close by in Boring, Oregon (in the 1940s) it is ideal for local conditions or even colder areas - hardy to zone 4)  Acer rubrum ‘Franks Red’   USDA Zones 4 - 8

Summer foliage of this maple is deep purple to maroon, pending on planting conditions.  (Full sun will enhance the leaf colors.)  Crimson Sentry is an excellent choice to border a path, driveway, or roadway because it grows less than 25 feet tall and it stays narrow.  A mature Crimson Sentry is wind resistant and drought tolerant.  It is a suitable variety for coastal areas as it has tolerance for salt spray.  In spring, the branches have small yellow blossoms before the leaves emerge.  In fall the burgundy foliage turns bronze and crimson.  Developed in 1972 - nearby in Hubbard Oregon - this maple is well suited to our climate & city size yards.  Acer platanoides ‘Crimson Sentry’ (also tagged ‘Crimson Red’) USDA Zones 4-9

Delicate cascading branches with lace-like green leaves that turn golden and crimson in fall.
