Summer foliage of this maple is deep purple to burgundy or deep crimson, depending on planting conditions. (Full sun will enhance the leaf colors.) Crimson Sentry is an excellent choice to border a path, driveway, or roadway because it grows less than 25 feet tall and stays fairly narrow. A mature Crimson Sentry is wind resistant and drought tolerant. It is a suitable variety for coastal areas as it has tolerance for salt spray. In spring, the branches have small yellow blossoms before the leaves emerge. In fall the burgundy foliage turns bronze and crimson. Developed in 1972 - nearby in Hubbard Oregon - this maple is well suited to our climate & city size yards.
