Native to North America, this is a long-lived tree with some reported to be 600 years old.  Starting at ground level there are aromatic silvery-blue needles – Blue Spruce’s trademark.  It will grow 10-15 feet in 10 years (1 - 1½ ft per year) depending on location & planting conditions.  Trees slowly mature about 40 feet tall.  Colorado Blue Spruce withstands strong winds and resists freezing temperatures.  Once established it is the most drought tolerant spruce.  A row of them makes an effective privacy screen or windbreak. Growing 5 to 7 feet tall, this Nandina is taller than many types.  A row creates a graceful year-round hedge, perfect for a border, privacy, or for hiding an unsightly fence.  Nandina’s white spring flowers become bright red decorative berries in summer.  The foliage turns fiery red/purple in the fall and winter.  Umpqua Chief Nandina is reported to be ‘highly deer and rabbit resistant.’   The low-maintenance bush grows well in about all soil types and once established it is drought tolerant, providing excellent screening throughout the year.  Nandina domestica ‘Umpqua Chief’  USDA Zones 6 – 9  Photo taken May 2026

CAMELLIA BUSHES -Sale $40 (Reg.$45) WHITE DOVES or ROYAL VELVET   Photos taken May 2, 2026

Planted in 5 gallon pots, professionally pruned to be full and flourishing.

A ROW MAKES A LOVELY HEDGE THAT BLOOMS LATE FALL THROUGH WINTER (WHITE DOVES) AND MID-WINTER TO SPRING (ROYAL VELVET)  Plant both and enjoy a flowering hedge all through the cold months. (The hummingbirds will thank you too.)

WHITE DOVES CAMELLIA - At a time when white might mean snow, these sparkling white ruffled flowers bloom and lift a person’s spirit. White Dove Camellia bushes grow 6 to 9 feet tall in part sun or part shade and are considered deer and rabbit resistant.  After 2 to 3 years they should be established enough to be drought resistant.  Traditionally in Japan White Doves Camellia leaves have been used for tea, and the seeds for oils (in cooking and cosmetics).   Camellia sasanqua ‘White Doves’   USDA Zones 7 - 10   RED VELVET CAMELLIA  is well named as it has extra-large velvety deep red/burgundy flowers (4-5 inches across) that look just like lush velvet.  They bloom at a time when little else is flowering - mid-winter to spring.  Camellia nectar sustains our local pollinators, especially bees and hummingbirds.  Royal Velvet has upright growth, maturing 8 to 10 feet tall.  It prefers partial sun to partial shade and will do well planted in a large container.  The flowers are frost-tolerant.  With glossy dark green leaves, a row of Royal Velvet Camellia creates a dense hedge or privacy screen that is beautiful all year.  Camellia japonica ‘Royal Velvet’   USDA Zones 7 – 9
