HONEYBERRIES - NATIVE TO NORTH AMERICA

“Sweet as honey”, a honeyberry is something you must try!  It has a more complex flavor than blueberry, with some tart rounding out its natural sweetness.  In spring the honeyberry bush covers itself in fragrant small white flowers, then sets large dark blue berries.   Honeyberries ripen earlier than strawberries, usually late spring to early summer.  They are delicious eaten fresh off the bush and are said to be full of antioxidants, so a healthy choice.  Berries also may be used for jams, pies, or juices.  Honeyberries are one of the few fruiting bushes that can grow and produce in full shade, though they also are happy in full sun.   Honeyberries are adaptable to various soil conditions.  They are untroubled by pests or diseases and are cold hardy to -40˚F.  Plant two honeyberries for cross-pollination.  USDA Zones 2 - 9
