HYDRANGEA BUSHES:

CHERRY EXPLOSION HYDRANGEA BUSH $ 40 planted in 5 gallon pot

Vibrant cherry-red flowers with tiny light pink centers brighten up the landscape from late June/early July until fall frosts.  The lace-cap blossoms form on both old and new wood, so they can flower even after harsh winters.  In fall there is burgundy foliage. The exact hue of the flower depends on the soil – for a little creativity you may experiment with soil amendments.  We add used coffee grounds to brighten the colors.  This cold-hardy bush grows well in partial sun;  it does like some afternoon shade.  The Cherry Explosion Hydrangea gets about 3 to 4 feet high and wide. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘McKay’  USDA Zones 4 - 9

L.A. DREAMIN' HYDRANGEA BUSH $40 planted in 5 gallon pot - It naturally produces 3 colors of flowers on the same bush – blue, lavender, pink.  Best of all, the 3 colors occur without any soil amendments, regardless of your soil’s pH.  Blossoms are large too, about 8 to 12 inches.  LA Dreamin’ is a  Big Leaf Hydrangea that strongly re-blooms from early summer through fall on both old and new wood.  Therefore it can manage a harsh winter and still flower.  The bush is a compact mounded shape 4 to 5 feet tall & wide.  It will grow in large containers and is a show-stopper as a flowering summer hedge.  Hydrangea macrophylla 'Lindsey Ann'   USDA Zones 5 - 10

RED PRINCE is the most hardy Weigela and does well in our climate.  It has long trumpet-shaped red flowers for a long blooming season in spring.  (And often it reblooms in late summer or fall).  The bush grows 5 to 8 feet tall, making a stunning summer flowering hedge.  Weigela florida "Red Prince'  SDA Zones 4-8, Hardy to -20˚ Photo taken May 2025  $35 planted in 5 gallon pots

.NATIVE OAKLEAF HYDRANGEA SNOW QUEEN- This Gold Medal Award winning bush blooms from early summer until fall frost with pure-white flowers that are supported by strong stems.  They attract butterflies and make excellent dried flower arrangements.  Lovely and unique oak-shaped dark green leaves turn bronze/red in autumn and flowers fade to a dusty rose.  Peeling bark adds interest in winter. A row provides privacy and makes a 4 to 6 foot tall hedge.  It will grow in full sun to deep shade and still bloom. Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Snow Queen’  USDA Zones 5-9  $45 (SALE $35 if you mention this webpage)Bushes are about 4 feet tall now, planted in 2 & 3 gallon pots - photos were taken summer and fall, 2025

UMPQUA CHIEF NANDINA Growing 5 to 7 feet tall, this Nandina is taller than many types.  A row creates a graceful year-round hedge, perfect for a border or for hiding an unsightly fence.  Nandina’s white spring flowers become bright red decorative berries in summer.  The foliage turns fiery red/purple in the fall and winter.  Umpqua Chief Nandina is reported to be ‘highly deer and rabbit resistant.’   The low-maintenance bush grows well in about all soil types and once established it is drought tolerant, providing excellent screening throughout the year.  Nandina domestica ‘Umpqua Chief’  USDA Zones 6 – 9  $40 Planted in 5 gallon pots,

$10 HARDY HIBISCUS BUSH  This bush has eye-catching ruffled flowers in bloom all summer long, up to the first hard frost.  The lush double-bloomed flowers have subtle variations in hues of blue and soft lilac.  A row of Hardy Hibiscus bushes creates an effective flowering summer privacy hedge that matures about 8 to 12 feet tall.  Hardy Hibiscus is remarkably easy to grow, tough, deer resistant and heat/cold tolerant.   This Hardy Hibiscus variety thrives in the Portland area – all the ones we sell are propagated from a bush that has flourished here on the farm for over a decade.  Planted in 1 gallon pots, now about 1 foot tall  USDA Zones 5 – 9 Hardy to -10˚F

$10  TWINBERRY HONEYSUCKLE BUSH a good choice for native or wildlife gardens.
