BING is large, juicy, and has a more intense flavor than other cherries; said to be “The World’s Most Popular Sweet Cherry”.  The fruit ripens mid to late August and is exceptional when enjoyed fresh, canned or for a Black Forest Gateau dessert.  A favorite of locals, Bing Cherry originated nearby – in Milwaukie, Oregon – in the late 19th century.  For over 100 years Bing has proven well-adapted to our local conditions. Bing requires another variety of cherry tree for cross pollination - choose a Lapins, Rainier or a Combo Cherry Tree.  Prunus avium “Bing’   USDA Zones 5 - 8

LAPINSThis large, juicy, and very sweet rich red cherry has been awarded the “Garden of Merit” for quality. It is delicious when eaten fresh and is superb for baking.  Lapins cherries are firmer than others, so they resist splitting.  Fruit usually ripens July to August, and the trees have attractive yellow/orange/red foliage in fall.  Lapins is one of the few self-fertile cherry varieties.  It is also an excellent pollinator for other cherry trees.  Prunus avium ‘Lapins’  USDA Zones 5 – 9

RAINIER A “Premium Cherry” and considered one of the best varieties for home gardens.  The beautiful fruit is high in sugar/sweetness but said to have a more “pleasantly tart” cherry taste than other types.  It is richly flavored, firm yet juicy, delicious eaten freshly picked when it ripens July to August.  Rainier needs another cherry tree for pollination.  Many choose Bing because its crop follows right after Rainier's, extending the harvest season. Other good pollinators for Rainier are Lapins or the Combo Cherry trees.  Prunus avium ‘Rainier’    USDA Zones 5 – 8

COMBO CHERRY TREESself-pollinating because they have 4 different, compatible varieties grafted onto them.  Trees include a choice of 4 of these types:  BLACK TARTARIAN  deep red sweet, BING dark red, smooth, glossy, sweet RAINIER scarlet with yellow blush, very sweet,a local favorite  MONTMORENCY tart, the best for pies & cobblers LAPINS deep red, firm, sweet  ROYAL ANN yellow with pink blush, much like Rainier, SWEETHEART large bright red heart-shaped, ripens later-extending the harvest season
